SCLA Story — SCLA

Paul Crookendale

Paul is an Economic Development Manager focussed on the economic progression of local citizens. He has developed a wide range of mainstream employment and skills programmes, which support movement towards and into employment and developed methodology and tools to support the capacity building of delivery organisations, to help them be more effective.

Paul chose to become an SCLA Trustee because:

1. He believes the equipped2succeed conversation is missing from mainstream delivery and is the missing link to enable more people to realise their goals and reach their potential

2. The equipped2succeed programme delivers against its objectives and the staff demonstrate its principles and values.

3. He made a commitment to help spread the equipped2succeed programme and in joining the board, he can honour his word.

Alya Jameel

Alya is a mother of 5 who has been worked in many fields and businesses. She came across SCLA when joining an equipped2succeed Wellbeing programme Beverley was delivering in St Ann’s in 2015. She had experienced a lot of training and been unimpressed with most of it, so openly says wasn’t expecting too much. After a few weeks she recognised this was different and as the benefits for her grew, she realised how the e2s Framework helped her in all areas of life.

Alya decided that she wanted to volunteer and help to grow the fledgling community organisation. She soon became a Learning Champion supporting programme delivery; whilst training to deliver equipped2succeed. Since 2016 Alya has been leading delivery of equipped2succeed programmes at Bakersfield Community Centre as well as other areas in the City. Alongside this she worked with NTU on peer researching to support the evaluation of the SSBC project in Nottingham. In recent years Alya’s role has developed within SCLA, leading the Advisory Board and supporting our learners to develop number, finance and budgeting skills.

The positive transformation Alya has seen in people has driven her to support the organisation and colleagues to grow and develop, so more people can benefit from what we do.
